After 6 months of study, I finished Hosea last night. It was a whirlwind – 3 chapters in 2 hours! A new record! A few highlights of my night.
12.1 ‘Ephraim feeds on the wind’ ~ I love that picture for the futility of pursuing idolatry or lusts or sin
12.5 ‘The Lord God of hosts. The Lord is His memorable name.’ ~ what more can you say?
13.1 ‘When Ephraim spoke, trempbling, He was exalted in Israel; But when he offended through Baal worship, he died.’ ~ Sermon on the Mount 101, blessed are the humble
13.4 ‘Yet I am the Lord your God ever since the land of Egypt, and you shall know no God but Me; for there is no Savior besides Me.’ ~ God’s relentless pursuit, you shall know no God but Me. and again in verse 10, ‘I will be your King’.
13.14 ‘I will ransom them from the power of the grave; I will redeem them from death. O Death, I will be your plagues! O Grave, I will be your destruction!’ ~ Victorious cry of the Lord of Hosts!
14.4 ‘I will heal their backsliding, I will love them freely’ ~ God loves to show mercy
14.9 ‘Who is wise? Let him understand these things. Who is prudent? Let him know them. For the ways of the Lord are right; the righteous walk in them’ ~ a fitting end to this prophetic book, true wisdom is knowing God.
