This next presidential election is clearly a little frightening. With a republican in office for two terms, the historical pattern is for the country to swing in entirely the opposite direction and vote in a democrat. Conservative evangelicals are a little jumpy.
The candidates are such a random group, all hungering for that position of power and authority, it’s a little hard to find one of them that is standing for righteousness. I remember when Hillary Clinton moved to NY, just so she could run for senate. I was in high school, and participated in quite a few cries of ‘not here, not now’. Unfortunately, I was part of a very small group of a republicans in the midst of a very blue state. As she took that step it was clear then that she would be running for president. I was disgusted. A carpet-bagger. Ick.
Now, as the presidential race gears up, and the dusty cloud begins to settle as to who will take the democratic or republican nomination, a higher question is arising. The game seems to be stacked for Hillary to take the presidency. Perhaps if the republican party finds a strong candidate… maybe Giuliani and such. Huge problem. Giuliani has a history of supporting the atrocity of partial-birth abortions, not to mention abortion in general.
This is one of those decisions. Those timeless epic sort of decisions. Will we stand for life and only vote for a candidate who is against abortion? Even in the face of overwhelming odds. Everyone saying that we will fail. Even so, before the courts of heaven, will we stand for truth and justice or will we compromise for the sake of men? Will we choose to burn or to bow before the altar of convenience? Consider the declarative of Shadrach and his companions as they stood before Nebuchadnezzar. Our God is able to deliver us, and will deliver us. But if He does not, know this, we will not bow before your gods nor worship your golden image! We will not bow before the idols of popularity, money or convenience, handing over our children to be sacrificed. I say, no.
It’s time to go to the governmental center of the universe a.k.a. prayer.
