Perhaps the best title for this page is not Coffee and Tea, but I really enjoy Coffee and Tea! There is not much that I energizes and excites me more than sitting down with a cup of Coffee and talking about God and Prayer. So, in that vein of thought, I am going to pretend that you, random-internet-browser-person, and I are sitting down to a cup of coffee. I am going to do my best to answer your questions.
Q: What is an Intercessory Missionary?
Me! Yep, I am an intercessory missionary. Many people are confused by the term ‘intercessor’… in the church I grew up, the lingo was more like ‘prayer warrior’. To explain fully, my vocation is to pray. I work a 50-hour week at the International House of Prayer, at which at least 24 hrs of my work time are spent praying in the Prayer Room. So, an intercessory missionary is someone who’s job is to pray. I am also a missionary, in that I raise all of my financial support. I don’t get paid by my employer, I have several friends and a church that supports me monthly.
Q: What is the International House of Prayer?
IHOP or the International House of Prayer [Note: Prayer not Pancakes :)] is a mission base located in Kansas City, Missouri. The core of our mission base is the prayer room – a place of worship and prayer, where the prayer never stops. Night and day, 24-7, 365 days a year we pray. In addition to the prayer room, the heart of IHOP, we also have a school of ministry, monthly conferences, and various ministries to the Kansas City area. IHOP seeks to be a place of a perpetual solemn assembly.
Joel 2:12-17… “Let the priests, the ministers of the Lord, weep between the porch and the altar. Let them say, spare your people O God, and do not give your heritage to reproach… why should they say among the peoples, where is their God?”
At IHOP we believe we are called to minister before the Lord night and day. Why? Because God is worthy.
Q: What else do you do at IHOP?
About 20+ of my 50 hours a week are spent serving the sound department. I am in charge of sound during the Evening Section (6pm – midnight). This means that I manage the sound techs, I am there is someone does not show up and I help out with technical problems (broken cables etc). During the 6pm – midnight section I also run sound for Misty Edward’s worship team.
Q: What about the rest of your week?
When I am not running sound or doing something for the sound department, I have my prayer room shifts. This means that I sit in the prayer room and talk to God. Sometimes I take a turn on the microphone to lead the room in prayer. Sometimes I study my Bible and sometimes I just sing along with the team.
Outside of my IHOP responsibilities, I am also a teacher at The Daniel Academy, at which I teach Algebra 1 and Algebra 2.
Phew! I am very busy! All to the glory of God. 🙂
